Why frequency matters
Dry cleaning is gentle when done right, but every clean puts some stress on fibres. Cleaning too frequently can dull colours and weaken delicate fabrics over time, while waiting too long lets sweat, body oils and stains set permanently.
The right frequency depends on the garment, how often you wear it, and the conditions it is exposed to.
A quick guide by garment
Suits and blazers: every 4–5 wears, or once a season if worn occasionally.
Dress shirts: after every wear if laundered, or every 2–3 wears if only lightly worn.
Silk and delicate blouses: after 1–2 wears, since they hold odour and oils.
Wool coats and outerwear: 1–2 times per season, plus once before storing.
Sarees and wedding wear: after each significant wear, and always before long storage.
Signs it is time to clean
Visible stains or spots.
Lingering odour even after airing.
A dull or limp appearance in structured garments.
Before storing anything for more than a few weeks.
How to clean less often, safely
Air garments after wearing before returning them to the wardrobe.
Spot-treat small marks quickly instead of cleaning the whole item.
Use garment bags and padded hangers to keep shape.
Rotate your wardrobe so no single item is overused.
